Summer Fellowships
For approximately 10 years YWAA has been sponsoring Yale students who wish to spend their summers serving the Westchester Community. Our support is both financial and material. We help defray the costs incurred by Yale and the community in the program and we provide the students with room and board. Students and YWAA members who have provided them with housing have all found the experience rewarding. If you are interesting in participating, or just have questions about the program, please contact Betsy Litt, 914-242-9056 (email: bal4@westchestergov.com).
Adanna Ukah, our 2010 YWAA Community Service Fellow, worked for Family Services of Westchester as a counselor at Camp Success, a summer program for children with serious emotional disturbance. Camp Success trains staff to use a strengths based approach to help campers develop the skills they need to function in their homes and communities.

Adanna is from Iowa City, Iowa. She is in her senior year at Yale and a member of Morse College. She is a Political Science major and studied in London during the second semester of her junior year. She dances with a Yale dance troupe, Groove Dance Company and works at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a recruitment coordinator and tour guide. Her two previous summers were spent at the Office of New Haven & State Affairs as a President’s Public Service Fellow and as an intern at an education NPO through Bulldogs in Cape Town.
YWAA Board member Betsy Litt arranged for Adanna’s position with Family Services of Westchester and YWAA Board member BK Munguia and her family hosted Adanna for the summer. Having such a bright and hard working young woman was a win for Camp Success and a pleasure for all who met her over the summer. Adanna joined Westchester Yalies at the July theater event at Boscobel.
